On the way to hike Cloud’s Rest we stopped here first then backtracked to the trail-head for the night hike.
Looking NE. Are these stars part of Perseus? Wish I knew the constellations better!

  1. Deborah, almost the entire star field here is the constellation Pegasus which if it were perhaps 20 minutes later would have been recognizable as a large square. The upper right bright star is Enif, the middle upper star is Matar. Forming the square, starting below Matar is Scheat, the left most star near the tree top is Alpheratz. Opposite the canyon it’s companion is Markab. Algenib has not risen enough to be visible yet.

Probably more than you wanted to know…

    1. Hi Steven,

Thank you so much for identifying all these stars and the constellation. I dismissed Pegasus when looking at the star chart for Aug. because I didn’t think the view was that far east!
No, not more than I wanted to know.
I think I need the phone app for stars. 🙂
