Tecnofotografia has a new design concept for the D800 published.

My initial thoughts:
While I don’t particularly care for video on a camera, and have never used the feature on either one of my cameras it seems to be a trend that is staying around.
I wouldn’t want that removable grip to come off so easily that it fell off on its own for no reason. The longer it “wears” the happier the consumer will be.
The removable wireless screen is interesting. It would be cool if you could tap into your apps with it to use neat apps like OnOne’s software that I blogged about here:

I do hope they don’t put on-board flash on it. I’d like to see them get rid of that keeping only the Hot Shoe mount like the higher end Pro line D3 (s) (x).
I am wondering how it would feel in my hands to use without the left hand control buttons. I love Nikon’s ergonomics. I’d hate to lose that.
My first reaction was that it has a lot of gimmicks and has a “consumer” rather than “Professional” feel/look. I hope Nikon keeps all the Pro features and ditches the gimmicky “consumer” features on the D700 replacement. I’m looking for the D3 in a Prosumer body.
What do you find interesting or exciting about this concept design?

Since I won’t be an early adopter of the D700 replacement I’ll have plenty of time to see/hear how it works, and feels. If it’s not up to the D700’s level I’ll look for a D700 then.
Looking through B&H’s catalog yesterday I noticed the Sony cameras in the back…You’re right! It does look like Sony!

Frankly, if all they did was bring the D3s tech (and viewfinder) down to the D800, there would be a lot of happy campers.
The advantage of this line is, less bulk and weight, which is why a lot of pros use it as a backer body.
After a few months of hauling around a D3s, the D700 is a lightweight.

LOL! The first things I said to Geo were. I can see this little screen getting lost, and the more I read the more I want a D3s!
If only I could justify and afford one. 🙂

I agree with you, in general. My initial thought was Nikon got bought out by Sony. That body is supposed to be pro-level; don’t see it standing up to pro-level abuse. Any profits they make will get eaten up in repairs for Nikon Pro support.
Looks like a D5100 replacement or something along that line. Even the other concept shot they have would put it more in line with a D400-ish body.
What happens if you lose the LCD? I mean, wow. Even if I was in the market for this version, I might back off if this is where they are going.
